| | sad | ] | while i am waiting for my father to die, within 24 hours or so, i was scanning google searches for personal anecdotes people had written about him. many were found. and it made me feel so so sad, sadder than i've been through this whole ordeal. i searched to make me happy. but it only made me sad. i thought reading about how he made others happy, and how he made a difference in their lives would be a something that would help me. but the image i have of him is not his strong, sarcastic self amazing a crowd, but a helpless pale ghost. terminally restless, hallucinating a cups and balls routine and his skin soft as velvet. i can't bare to go in to his room and say goodbye. our goodbye happened wordlessly. over a socket wrench, just saturday morning, he couldn't remember how to work. that evening he was mentally gone. now i just wish he'd hurry up and die because my wedding is on saturday. isn't that horrible? |

cleaned out the storage unit and found 10+ book boxes. i'm sorry i have so many books. i have no major furniture, no everyday dishes, no housewares, no nothing.
but i have art and books, damn it. and a vision for a spongebob squarepants bathroom.

Just so happens President's Day Weekend is one of the 5 most popular times to go. Research is your friend. But hey, had you picked, say, next Sunday... it would've been 2/3rds less crowded. I'M JUST FUCKING SAYING... Love, yours truly, ME |

| | infuriated | ] | Does Trent Lapinski's exposé about MySpace read like a conspiracy theory? Sure. Buy the anger or not, this guest feature story is a great read for those of us who are goddamn sick of Tom, Tom, Tom.
MySpace: The Business of Spam 2.0 (Exhaustive Edition) By Trent Lapinski
By now, everyone knows what MySpace is--or at least, they think they do. The generally held assumption is that MySpace is a social networking site: "a place for friends," as their slogan puts it. In reality, MySpace is the next generation of marketing, advertising and promotion, exquisitely disguised as social networking. Simply put, MySpace.com is Spam 2.0.
for more article (fascinating stuff): http://valleywag.com/tech/myspace/myspace-the-business-of-spam-20-exhaustive-edition-199924.php
best part of the article: With the site quickly gaining popularity, and Greenspan no longer providing integral direction, DeWolfe and the MySpace team moved to create a false PR story that would best reflect the ideals and tastes of its growing demographic. They wanted to prevent the revelation that a Spam 1.0 company had launched the site, and created the impression that Tom Anderson created the site, and the lie worked.
The venture, of course, turned out to be a huge success. MySpace has spawned an incredibly successful twist on the age-old art of self-promotion, allowing--even encouraging--the marketing of everything from bands to businesses on their site. Essentially, they've opened up a channel through which to solicit and promote everyone and everything--most importantly the individual. The whole site is, in essence, a marketing tool that everyone who registers has access to. Users constantly receive spam-like messages from said bands, business, and individuals looking to add more "friends" (and therefore more potential fans, consumers, or witnesses) to their online identity. A testament to this strange new social paradigm is the phrase "Thanks for the Add," a nicety offered when one MySpace user "adds" another as a "friend."

| | tired | ] | i'm home. with serious jet lag. ugh.
got back yesterday morning. had to cut the trip a little short and change our flight as eloise got really sick on friday. oh well. we still got most everything done we needed to do.
we had a great time. it was exhausting, but so fun! hope those who requested postcards got, and enjoyed, them.
ryan and i have to do our shopping for the week in a little while. we're going to trader joe's. for some reason when i say or think "trader joe's" i smile. i LOVE that place. it's the best. so many food finds.
back to the south beach diet tomorrow. while we were gone i did my best under the circumstances. but i really missed broccoli and zucchini a lot. when we'd get vegetables with an entree it was CORN! that's not a vegetable... it's a starch. crazy south!
anyway, i hope ryan and i, by ourselves, can go back to WDW sometime sooner than later. just for a 4 days or so. there were a few things we still want to do that we missed; and some grown-up things that we'd enjoy as well (like a dueling pianos bar!). |

| | busy | ] | leaving for orlando florida in just about 55 hours. off to walt disney world for 8 days.
this has been the most stressful endeavor ever. and i even planned my own wedding once. oh and i went to wdw before too. but nothing has been like this. phew. i can't even tell you how crazy this has been. the man and i will need a real vacation after this. one my boss likes to call a "bakersfield vacation" where there's nothing to do at all. the child is wonderfully oblivious to all the planning. the most plannning she's done was making 3x5 color coded cards with ther top 10 rides from each of the 4 parks... uh no make that 7, 5, 2 rides as she got bored and more bored by the task.
the weather looks like it will be good for us. now if we can all get over the sinus pains, and stomach aches... i haven't truly gotten a good night's sleep in a few weeks. i'm starting to crack. last night was 5mg of ambien. didn't do shit except for making my dreams go in fast forward for 2 hours. tonight is 10mg. here's to hoping i get enough sleep to stop hallucinating spiders everywhere.
maybe a photo post when i get back? maybe not. |

| | awake | ] | a day in my life:
8am: dropped off 6 year old eloise at open classroom, progressive school, 2nd grade.
8:15am: went to 99 cent store. bought stuff like candy and toys.
8:45am: got to work and realized, as the only person in the office usually, i locked mia the 22 toed cat in the back room.
10am: ryan, my boyfriend of 1 1/2 years comes to work for me as he doesn't start his new job until mon.
11:30am: lots of richard cheese is listened to. we laugh our asses off.
4pm: we leave and head to longs drugstore to pick up my dad's prescriptions. he has a lot since being diagnosed with cancer.
4:45pm: ryan shows off his new car to my parents. it's a '90 camry and really cute. my mom gives him a vanilla air freshener.
5:30pm: eloise, ryan, and i head off to the mall.
5:45pm: we hit the stride rite for shoes for eloise, and the disney store for new t-shirts all around.
6:15pm: we wait an eternity for a table at red robin. i have a $2.00 off coupon. the wait is worth it.
6:45pm: i order a bbq chicken sandwich with lettuce instead of a bun. my child devours a corn dog which she has never tried before.
7:04pm: eloise and i bump into the fake ass president of the pto in the women's bathroom. she has her 2 boys, ages 5+, with her in there.
7:30pm: ryan needs new clothes for his new job, but eloise doesn't have the strength to aggressively shop.
7:32pm: we go into old navy just to look for some t-shirts for ryan. he's so picky; it's grueling. i'm getting indigestion.
7:44pm: i find a bunch of t-shirts on sale that he loves. eloise finds a tiny owl stuffed animal on the floor she must rescue. it costs $3.50.
8:00pm: we are back in the car driving home.
8:45pm: the child is safely in bed. the grown-ups have a stoli blueberry vodka, pear juice, and club soda concotion safely in hand.
9:30pm: half of the movie 'laurel canyon' is watched. it is the worst movie ever. almost. 'black dahlia' was definitely worse.
10pm: more booze is had and we scan through the whole movie on fast forward to find the menage a trois. hmph. its's pretty weak.
10:30pm: after getting sucked back into that stupid fucking movie, and then turning it off, we watch the food network.
11:15pm: emeril is deep frying. it's distracting while we're trying to plan our upcoming walt disney world vacation.
11:22pm: we're tipsy.
1am: time passes by so quickly. ryan leaves and i am still up. |

[Sep. 3rd, 2006|11:06 pm] |
went to see 'the illusionist' tonite. it was really good. i'd give it a B.
the acting was bland but believable. i was actually proud of jessica biel for looking so turn of the century and pulling off an accent. i really liked her as an actress in 'texas chainsaw massacre' which was actually the only thing in which i've ever seen her act.
'the illusionist' was sort of a "family" type film. no major violence, nudity, swearing, adult themes, etc. it was really enjoyable in that regard. a movie one could become engrossed in because it had solid storytelling qualities.
the plot was very good. nice twists. and great fx. i do wish it had a bit more oomph, more gotcha, more DRAMA. but it was lovely in it's quietness too.
all in all it was a highly enjoyable movie about one of my more favorite subjects, magic. i look forward to the DVD version with (hopeful)alternate endings and a commentary. |
